1. The Fourth World (1997) as Kara's Flower

The Fourth World (1997) is an album released by the Los Angeles band Kara's Flowers. The album contains 11 tracks plus one bonus track on the Japanese edition.
The band signed with Reprise Records and released the album on August 19, 1997. However, the band had little success with the album and parted with the record label two years later.This was the first and only album officially released by the band under the name of Kara's Flowers. They continued to explore different musical styles until finally coming together again with James Valentine to form Maroon 5, who released subsequent albums thereafter.

2. Songs About Jane (2002)

Songs About Jane is the debut album of American pop rock band Maroon 5, released June 25, 2002 on J Records and Octone Records. The album became a sleeper hit with help of five singles that attained chart success, including the Billboard hit "Harder to Breathe" and international hits "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved". It was re-released on October 14, 2003, and by the end of 2004, had reached the top-ten of the US Billboard 200 chart. Songs About Jane had sold nearly 2.7 million copies by the end of 2004 and has been certified multi-platinum in sales in several countries.

It Won't Be Soon Before Long is Maroon 5's second studio album, released on May 22, 2007. It came almost a full five years after their debut, Songs About Jane.  The name was inspired by a phrase the band adopted to keep themselves  motivated while on their tour. The album debuted at number one on the  U.S. Billboard 200, selling 429,484 copies in its first week. It Won't Be Soon Before Long has 12 songs, plus 7 bonus tracks. The band stated in interviews that the album has a different feel to it from the Songs About Jane.

 4. Hands All Over (2010)

Hands All Over is the third studio album by the American rock band Maroon 5. Produced by veteran producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album was released by A&M/Octone Records on September 21, 2010. On July 12, 2011, the band re-released the album to include their summer hit "Moves Like Jagger". The lead single, "Misery", was released in June 2010. "Give a Little More" followed as the second single in August 2010, "Never Gonna Leave This Bed"  as the third single in February 2011, and "Moves Like Jagger" as the  fourth single in June 2011. A moderate success on the charts, selling  over 500,000 copies in the United States, the album received generally  favorable reviews from music critics, many of them praising it for its  production. Some critics have noted that the album features more of a soulful style than Maroon 5's previous works.

Maroon 5

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. While they were in high school, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Adam Levine, keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, bass guitarist Mickey Madden, and drummer Ryan Dusick formed a garage band called Kara's Flowers and released one album in 1997. After a brief period they re-formed with guitarist James Valentine, and pursued a new direction as Maroon 5. The following year they released their debut album Songs About Jane, which contained four hit singles: "Harder to Breathe", "This Love", "She Will Be Loved" and "Sunday Morning"; it also enjoyed major chart success, going gold, platinum, and triple platinum in many countries around the world.

In support of Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 toured extensively throughout 2003–2005, during which time two live albums were released. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. Dusick left the band in September 2006, citing injuries sustained by constant touring, and was replaced by Matt Flynn. Maroon 5's second studio album It Won't Be Soon Before Long was released in 2007, with the singles "Makes Me Wonder", "Won't Go Home Without You" and "Wake Up Call".  The band performed live in two tours between June and November 2007,  during which time a compilation of previously unreleased songs, The B-Side Collection, was released.

Two more live albums and a remix album were issued in 2008. Maroon 5's third studio album Hands All Over  was released in the United States on September 21, 2010. Since debuting  in 2002, the band has sold over 10 million albums in the United States  and nearly 15 million worldwide.

Adam Noah Levine

Adam Noah Levine was born in March 18, 1979 in Los Angeles, the son of Patsy Noah and Fred Levine. His uncle is journalist and author Timothy Noah. He has a brother, Michael, and a sister, Julia Milne. When he was six, he made the winning shot of his local YMCA championship basketball game (on a team his father coached) with no time left on the clock. He has said that the incident changed his life and gave him the confidence to be successful.

Levine attended French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts Camp (Hancock, NY) with best friend Jesse Carmichael, guitar player of the band known at that time as Kara's Flowers. He graduated from Brentwood School in 1997.

Levine has Jewish ancestry on both sides of his family (his father and maternal grandfather were Jewish), and considers himself Jewish, though according to The Jewish Chronicle, who interviewed Levine, he "has rejected formal religious practice for a more generalized, spiritual way of life". He chose not to have a Bar Mitzvah as a child.

Kara's Flowers Band

Having met at Brentwood School in Los Angeles, the band released their first album entitled The Fourth World in 1997 as high school seniors. That same year the band appeared on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. The album had little success, and its only single, "Soap Disco", failed commercially. Disappointed with the results of their album, the band members went their separate ways.

Levine and Carmichael left Los Angeles for New York. This was the first time the two Los Angeles natives were exposed to a completely different music scene, a cultural awakening for the young men. On MTV News, in 2002, Levine said, "That's when I started waking up to the whole hip hop, R&B thing. We had friends named Chaos and shit. It was not Brentwood High."

Maroon 5

During this time, Levine worked a two-week stint as a waiter at Johnny Rockets. After dropping out of Five Towns College, Levine and Jesse reunited with Mickey and Ryan, but added former Square guitarist, James Valentine in 2001. Renaming the band Maroon 5, Levine and his friends began to compile all of their new found musical influences into their music. While Levine was working as a writer's assistant on the television show "Judging Amy," he spent time writing the lyrics about his ex-girlfriend, Jane. Those lyrics became the album "Songs About Jane."

Other Project

Levine has collaborated with various musical acts. In 2005, Levine was featured on the Ying Yang Twins song "Live Again". He appeared on Kanye West's Late Registration album, on the third single, "Heard 'Em Say". He is also featured in the song "Wild Horses" on Alicia Keys' third album Alicia Keys: MTV Unplugged. Over the next year, he co-wrote the track "Say It Again" on Natasha Bedingfield's album N.B.. He also performed the background vocals on this song. Most recently, Levine offered his vocals on Gym Class Heroes' newest album in the song "Stereo Hearts".

Levine has made four notable comic appearances on television. During 2007, he appeared on the 33rd season premiere of Saturday Night Live in an SNL Digital Short called Iran So Far with Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen and Jake Gyllenhaal. Levine played himself while singing a humorous bridge to a "love song" for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In 2008, he appeared on Comedy Central's "Night Of Too Many Stars". Levine also had a cameo on Jimmy Kimmel Live for the night of stars and endorsed Barack Obama in the 2008 Presidential Election.

In October 2008, Levine collaborated with First Act to create the First Act 222 Guitar, fashioned to Levine's specifications. The guitar was made available for purchase at Target retail stores. Levine has stated in various interviews that he does not plan on continuing in Maroon 5 forever, and may stop after the tour for Maroon 5's third album.

Levine made a guest appearance as himself on the season three finale of 30 Rock in the episode Kidney Now! In 2009, Levine recorded "Gotten", a song for Slash's first solo album Slash released in April 2010. "Gotten" was premiered at amazon.com on March 29, 2010. Levine is also featured as a singer for his band's song "She Will be Loved" in the music rhythm game Band Hero. In February 2010, he was among approximately 80 musicians who sang on the charity-single remake of "We Are the World" called "We Are the World 25 for Haiti". Levine is one of the contestant judges and coach mentors on the singing TV show, The Voice. The winner, Javier Colon, was on Levine's team.

Mickey Madden

Mickey Madden (born Michael Allen Madden, May 13, 1979 in Austin, Texas) is an American musician. Madden is best known for being the bassist in the pop rock band Maroon 5. He began playing music with junior-high friends guitarist Jesse Carmichael and singer / guitarist Adam Levine under the influence of groups like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and after the final 1994 addition of Ryan Dusick on drums, the alternative pop/rock band Kara's Flowers were born. In 1994, with the addition of Ryan Dusick (drums), the band Kara's Flowers was formed. After the break-up of Kara's Flowers, Madden attended classes at UCLA. After Madden attended college, the group reformed with the addition of James Valentine (guitar). The quartet scored a record deal with Reprise, issued a mediocre album, and was released from its contract all in a matter of years. Following the termination of its deal, the band went on hiatus, during which Madden briefly took some classes at UCLA. Before long, however, the guys had reconvened back in Los Angeles to begin writing new songs that featured more groove-based elements than their past songs. New guitarist James Valentine was ultimately added into the fray (moving Carmichael over to keyboards) and the pop/rock group renamed itself Maroon 5. After scoring a new deal with Octone Records and writing a bunch of songs directly inspired by Levine's recently failed relationship, Maroon 5 released their debut album, the aptly titled Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album sold steadily over the next couple of years and was certified platinum by 2004. Maroon 5 scored several hit singles, won two Grammy Awards, and toured constantly in support.

James Valentine

James Valentine (born James Burgon Valentine, October 5, 1978, Lincoln, Nebraska) is an American musician. He is best known as the lead guitarist for the pop rock group Maroon 5. His family now lives in Utah. His mother works for Brigham Young University, which is owned and operated by the LDS Church. His father works for Utah Valley University and previously was an adjunct professor of Latin American literature at BYU. Valentine does not consider himself to be an active Mormon, but still identifies with the religion and culture. Valentine played in Lincoln bands Montag, Kid Quarkstar, Mondello,and Happy Dog. In 2000, Happy Dog changed its name to Square and he moved to Los Angeles, California from Anaheim, California where he taught private guitar lessons out of his home. Valentine had also played with Reel Big Fish, firstly when guitarist Aaron Barrett broke his hand, and then later in 2001 when Barrett fell down some stairs. Valentine displayed a picture from one Reel Big Fish show he played during Maroon 5's appearance on MTV Cribs. Eventually the members of Square and Kara's Flowers became friends and when Kara's Flowers began looking for another guitarist, Valentine was approached. Personal tensions in Square helped the decision, and shortly afterward, Kara's Flowers became Maroon 5. Valentine is a friend of John Mayer, whom he met in 1996 at Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts. Valentine once tried to get Mayer to move to Lincoln to play guitar for the Lincoln blues rock band Baby Jason and the Spankers. An opening slot on Mayer's 2003 summer tour helped bring widespread exposure to Maroon 5. Valentine contributed guitar work to Mayer's September 2006 release Continuum on the songs "Stop This Train" and "In Repair." Valentine has played guitar on Jenny Lewis's solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat, and has appeared in her music video for "Rise Up with Fists!!"

Jesse Royal Carmichael

Jesse Royal Carmichael was born in April 2, 1979, Boulder, Colorado, United States. His family relocated to Los Angeles and Carmichael. He is the keyboardist for Maroon 5. Carmichael first started playing the guitar in junior high, rather than the keyboards (for which he is known in the band Maroon 5). With his friends Adam Levine, Ryan Dusick, and Mickey Madden and also under the influence of band like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
