One important aspect of determining the "voices" of our drums are drum instruments (drum gears) that we use. I agree that the technical skill and ability of drumming inspiration and the harmony to the song that is played much more important than the drum gears are used. However, to create the appearance of a drummer to be maximized, preferably good technical drumming skills , drum gears are supported by the use of well qualified.
I often answer the questions from friends about how to buy a drum gears, for example:
- What brand of snare drum A, B, or C that are more suitable for the genre of Rock , Blues, or Punk ?
- What is the best double pedals brand to play "loud music" ?
- What kind of cymbal that is good for playing jazz music?
- Why cymbal brand "x" price is much cheaper than the brand "y"?
- When should I replace the drum heads?
And many others around the drum question gears.
So, finally I thought to try to write tips can be useful for you to choosing and buy a drum gears. All of these tips come from personal experienced and sharing experiences with many other drummers. Obviously these tips are not the most correct, so please give constructive and positive feedback from all my friend. Let we discuss it one by one:
- Always remember the phrase: "There are price for best item". Drum gears are expensive, usually the quality is more qualified. BUT we must remember, that all the drum gears are expensive, good voice.
- Adjust the budget that you have now. If you are no in hurry to buy a drum gears, you should save the money first, and buy a better drum gears / high-end.
- Believe in your own ears and sense, as much as possible try first before buying the drum gears. Its okay to ask for opinions of others, or browsing the web for reviews on certain drum gears, but in the end you must decide whether you like it or not, comfortable or not to use the drum gears that you are going to buy.
- Ask your friends to come with you when you want to buy a drum gears. Why? So that you can hear his the sound when it played by your friend, so other than the drum sound you hear when playing the drum gears, the sound from the standpoint of audience also be considered, friends that are more experienced in drum technic and knowledge of tools, can provide good feedback for you to choose drum gears.
- Remember, there is no drums / cymbals / snare that was created / produced for specific type only to certain genre music. So, we should not "boxing" drum gear category with certain types of music it is, such as: Tama's just for playing rock music, DW for Jazz, Sabian for blues, Axis pedal for Punk, etc.
- Find a music store that is large enough, and is famous for its reputation in serving the customer. It is certainly to better ensure the quality and price of the drum gears are you going to buy today, many musical instrument stores that sell their products online, either through their own website, or other media.
- Try to ask for the discount. Generally a fairly well-known music store can provide between 10-20 percent discount from the list price. there is no harm in trying? Not bad if you can get a discount :D.
- Beware if there is a certain store that offering a very cheap price than the general prices. That should not be bought. Why? Because the possibility of counterfeit goods, defective / incomplete, or black market / illegal.
- Praying.
